Are artist the ones making music that's sad or dark? Or, are they just responding to their audience? I think that it's a little of both.
Musicians make music that speaks to their audience; otherwise, they'll never sell their music. When they stop, their audience attacks them for selling out.

Music is art: The expression of human creative skills and imagination. Music is also a medium through which artist speak of recent happenings thereby expressing the plight of people or bringing to light issues, situations that have been buried or put in the dark.
So,does music talk about sex, drugs, alcohol? Yes. Is it just the music of nowadays that talks about this vices? No. The subject of sex, drugs and others in music has been around for a long time. Music in my opinion is the best way to talk people out of associating with vices such as those talked about on this post. However, music of recent times doesn't really talk people out of this vices, instead it encourages people into endulging with this life threatening vices. I only wish artist of recent times could emulate those of past times.
